The famous and delicious Colorado Rocky Ford cantaloupes grown just 162.90 miles away are in season now. Sometimes I make cantaloupe milk. It is heaven, if you like cantaloupe. All the fiber stays in and the air whipped up in there makes it sort of thick and frothy.
cantaloupe milk
Scoop out the cantaloupe directly into the blender or into a tall cup if using an immersion blender, like I do. Blend it up. The same treatment can be used on other melons, as well. Blend and drink in basically one motion because it will separate and begin to break down pretty fast.
orange. yes. the color i'm learning to love. it's taking time but i'm getting there. and i love cantaloupe. wonder how it would be frozen and then whipped up like a smoothy...maybe with some strawberries and bananas.
ReplyDeleteorange is a good thing. Cantaloupe is so fresh and nothing says Summer like cantaloupe and watermelon!
ReplyDeleteI have always heard "eat it alone or leave it alone" when it comes to melons. In other words do not mix it with other foods. Have you ever heard that?
p.s. I just bought my first watermelon for this season today. It was finally down to $4 instead of $7.
ReplyDeleteDeanna, that's right, your bright & beautiful piece has orange, too -- I once heard a quilting teacher say that every quilt should have a little orange in it.
ReplyDeleteI might try frozen cantaloupe sometime, too, it will just be thicker like a milkshake! Oh, wonderful summer with sweet juicy fruit, now's the time!
Marie, I think, in general, it's true about fruit being digested better when eaten alone on an empty stomach. Hadn't known about melon being eaten separate from other fruit...I wouldn't doubt it if someone has digestive issues though. Haven't gotten a watermelon yet, yum! Pricey, aren't they!?
ReplyDeleteI'm adding my feather to a wonderful piece of orange fabric! And I am not usually an orange person!! Go figure :)
ReplyDeleteNancy, hey, it must be in the air -- look forward to seeing your feather on orange!!
ReplyDeleteMust try this, hadnt thought to smoothie it! Sounds and looks yummy
ReplyDeleteLyn, if you like cantaloupe, you will love it. It's sort of weird to drink down half a cantaloupe just like that, but oh-so worth it!
ReplyDeleteDo you use the seeds? I have heard of cantaloupe seed milk, made with all the pulp, but you said you use the whole fruit. I have made the seed milk, but wasn't crazy about it unless I was severely dehydrated - someday I'll try again. Maybe it is good with salt.
ReplyDeleteHi Bethany! I scoop out the seeds before making this. I don't know about using fruit seeds in a drink but they'd probably need to be soaked before using, the same as with wheat, nuts, and other seeds to destroy phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors.
