july things

July's full moon art is in the form of cloth once again. This is the eighth calendar moon cloth in the current 13 moon series. The calendar cloth is nearly hidden by the lace of the house, but it's there, looking out. And there's a patch of Rumi cloth on top -- "Some Kiss We Want" written on muslin -- I call it written-word cloth in my label section over on the sidebar.

This morning I cut lemon verbena and chocolate peppermint for drying. They'll be ingredients in a tea blend of whichever herbs thrive in the garden this summer -- to be named Spirit of the Garden Tea Blend 2013. I've always wanted to do this and will try not to be too concerned about whether or not flavors "go" together. Whatever does well in the garden ought to do well in the teacup, I say. I hope.

The dogs, Daisy (black) and Talula (rusty), and I watched a nice rain yesterday. Well, the dogs were actually waiting for it to stop for their walk. I watched, they waited. Normally Talula is after rabbits (which she feels she has a chance with) but with the rain she had to settle for squirrels (no chance). An old red step-stool chair that's the year-round haircutting station of my outdoor barber shop, rain or shine -- buddha rain man garden -- lantana -- hoya plant stretching for distant lands.

Thanks for stopping by and happy weekending to all. xo

  1. Can I make an appointment for the red stool? There is something about hot weather that makes me want to go back to my high school haircut of super short. Your lantana looks gorgeous! Mine is about half the size, but the hummer doesn't seem to mind. Does your hoya bloom? I've had one for ages and never a bloom. Wishing you a beautiful weekend. (Send some rain north, please!)

  2. this post is just pure medicine for me right now..the step stool, an icon from my childhood home and the actual name, Hoya, for a plant that I have been nurturing since I brought a twig from my mother's plant so many years ago.

  3. Hi Deb, I love knowing that these things from my life flowed right into your life. This hoya is an Elder, too -- over 20 years old.

  5. Jeannie, you sure can but I have to warn you, I'm self-taught. ;)

The hoya is really old -- maybe my oldest house plant -- started from cuttings, and it used to bloom but hasn't for a few years now. It doesn't like a lot of water which works just fine for me. It might be too big of a pot, not sure why it's not blooming anymore. I rooted some more stems and have another pot going now, too. Maybe that one will bloom?

    Hope you get some rain!

  6. Lovely to see your dogs, I don't think I've seen them before. Both gorgeous, and their colours an interesting foil for each other.

Your garden is lush, lantana is so pretty, but here where I live (Oz)it's classed as a weed and not allowed. Funnily though, 20 kms away over the border, it is allowed and is a popular garden feature!

    Enjoy your summery weekend Peggy.

  7. Ooh, ooh, ooh...yes! You folded it in half and now a lil somethin' is peeking through! Perfect! I've just sat and stared at them uninspired and not pleased with the dye result I got. I love seeing such creativity :)
The stool is high on my list of favorites, right up there with clotheslines and wood screen doors! I think I was born at the wrong time.
Your good ol Talula has such soul-filled eyes!
Thanks for this much needed post.

  8. Much inspiration here for me, too, Peggy---and also some memories sparked by one of your dog's name. Some cousins of mine in Louisiana used to go to Tallulah, LA, often, and because I'd never been there, I imagined it as a very exotic place (plus, I love the sound of that word). Thanks!

  9. Another great moon block, I love the clouds over the moon and the lace over the calendar. I miss working on my moon blocks:(

  10. Nanette, interesting that lantana is a weed in Oz, but I guess that's the case with many plants. The thing is, it's so hard to even keep looking half-ways decent here -- it must be a gorgeous weed down your way! ;)

  11. Hi Nancy, I saw that you saw that the napkin's been cut, I couldn't resist it for the lace to be the house! ;) Hope you had a nice weekend.

  12. Chris, thank you. Had never heard of Tallulah, LA! -- I streamlined the spelling to Talula -- to shorten the name a bit, at least for writing purposes! It's a real mouthful to call for her at the park! :)

  13. Hi Kathy and thanks! You've been busy, you'll get back to yours when the time is right. Right? :)
