button card moonday

All I can say is thank goodness for lifelines. The same six rows of the purple lady sweater have been knit and torn out twice. The first time I lost one stitch and could not find it. The second time -- well, how does a person knit instead of purl all 282 stitches of gull lace pattern? And then continue on her merry way for two more rows after that?

I've been telling myself be patientyou're really learning a lot, you're learning how to pay attention, this is good, you're learning the gull lace pattern forwards and backwards . . . but really.

I saw button cards in The Gentle Art of Stitching by Jane Brocket. Now, button cards I can do! -- and it's a nice way to use both vintage buttons and old postcards (or greeting card fronts like the winter scene up there). When I'm looking for a button, I can remember and reread the postcards. Not that I use that many buttons or have all that many postcards, but I have saved them forever. Vintage flash cards might be fun, too -- just playing around with those though.

Today is a waning half moonday in Taurus. Earthy Taurus makes us slow down, dig in, and savor precious time spent in our homes and gardens. Projects that we focus on under a Taurus moon tend to be long-lasting, and we are more patient and practical now.

All righty then.

  1. I love the color of the yarn and your cute needle holder. I think I am better at un-knitting than I am at knitting. :) The button cards are wonderful! The flash cards would be so much fun for little ones. Not only would the learn words, but colors as well. Calmness, not that is something I can embrace! Keep cool!

  2. what a unique needle point protector. thank goodness for lifelines. don't think i will venture into another huge lace project...maybe just something small. it takes too much concentration.

  3. Hi Deanna, that's actually a key case but it works great for knitting needles, too. Yes, I think a smallish lace piece would be very fun -- I could've made a few by now! It's turning into the principle of the thing now. ;)

  5. Thanks, Jeannie -- I'm getting really good at unknitting, too! I was thinking that too about the flash cards -- how fun it would be for kids to pick buttons for the words. I have to remember this for the next time my little people come over. Earlier today before I posted, they were here and sorted and matched buttons for a l-o-n-g time -- then the older two, 7 & 5, picked and took home 20 special buttons each for their own projects. The baby didn't care. :)

  8. I saw these button cards the other day, but didn't get a chance to leave a comment. I just love the idea of button cards. You get a lot of free postcards these days and I do have lots of buttons to use. Thanks for sharing Petty - Hugs Nat

  10. Lyn, playing cards would be really cool. I was thinking about using some old tarot cards but didn't like some of the imagery, which is why I quit using that deck in the first place. Yours sound wonderful!
