it's-just-thread moonday

The way people always say it's just paint, I've been telling myself it's just thread. A good thing it's just thread, as I have stitched-and-unstitched on the green hand cloth more than I've ever done before on anything ever. The hand has been embellished twice, the leaves have had both roots and stars. All torn out. A shift seems to have occurred, inspired by the magic diaries class -- some leaves have become eyes -- I'm thinking of them as possible symbols of the life force/wisdom of plants. Plant spirits. The leaves also remind me of buds; old botanicals refer to buds as eyes. Nowadays, we usually only think of the sunken buds of potatoes as eyes. But when you see a bud, you know something is alive and growing.

Today is a growing moonday in Taurus. Taurus is a patient time, thank goodness, that helps us to stabilize and focus on practical matters. There is a tendency to be stubborn  but I don't see that as necessarily a negative thing, the line between strong and stubborn is so blurred. Here's how I gauge it -- if I feel myself uncomfortably shutting down from change, I'm probably being stubborn.

Although it may not be the absolute best planting time, a waxing moon in Taurus is also considered highly ideal. Maybe even especially so for early spring or fall plantings when hardiness is so important as seeds sown or projects begun under a Taurus moon are usually long-lasting and dependable.

Taurus rules the jaws and neck including the voice, throat, teeth, ears, and thyroid gland. Now is a good time to focus on healing those parts and avoid causing them additional stress. Have you noticed that a sore throat is sometimes simply a warning to "watch it" and take better care of yourself? I can go to bed with a sore throat but after a good night's sleep, it's gone. Amazing how easy it can be if I only listen to my body.

Wishing you a patient and earthy moonday!

  1. ha! yes! i used to tell my knitting students, "it's only fabric" when asking them to cut steeks and insert button plackets. true, it is fabric that they just spent over 300 hours painstakingly knitting! still, it is only fabric!

insofar as your embellished and un-embellished hand, i like the idea that it will bear the marks of its previous needle chants. even if the holes left behind heal with time, the warp and weft of it will remember and hold them in its hand...

    1. Joe, well steeks are especially scary, I probably couldn't cut one without some wine beforehand!

The green hand does look like it's been poked & prodded -- I like your idea of the memory being held. Nice.

  2. I guess your investing your soul into the hand and its surroundings, so its less about the stitching and more a meditation and reassesment somehow?
It will be incredibly enriched anyway, by the time you feel its time to lay down the needle!

    1. Yes, Lyn, thanks, you're right, it's almost like a journal or even a workbook. I'd have liked to be more like Jude and leave it and go over it and make something of the stitching I didn't really care for -- but no I have to erase the board and start over. Just not there yet!

  3. How clever of you to turn leaves into eyes, very inspired, and I love them, they look watchful and assessing, but not involved, just like plant devas should.

  4. the eyes make me think there are beings hiding behind the bushes in the dark. peering in on all your wonderful doings. i like the twisted thread around the hand...like energy pulsating...a hand aura.

    1. Deanna, thank you for those thoughts, I love the idea of a hand aura, how can I take that further? -- I'd been trying to figure out how to do that with the moon, giving it an aura somehow, so may be tearing out its stitching next! I just keep erasing the board...

  5. A scarred hand, a hand that tells the story of life. When I look at my hand, beyond the lines of age are lines from when I tried to fly and cut myself, the line from the can of corn for dinner, cat pats, etc. Your hand cloth will bear the marks of your thoughts. I loved seeing your cactus in bloom. Mine were brought out from the back room as they decided to gift me with a second bloom this year. Evidently the weather has them confused as well. Listening to the body. It is a hard lesson, but one we must all do. The subtle messages it sends us are worth paying attention to. Wishing you a beautiful moonday and week. xo

    1. Oh, Jeannie, now there's an idea -- showing a real hand with age and scars and all. Flying (you must've been a handful!) and tin cans & cat pats, that'll do it! Swirly embellishments might be easier to stitch, I don't know. Love that idea though! Our bodies are sort of like boro cloth. Our blooming cacti must be in sync. What are they telling us, I wonder? Have a great week!

    1. Helen! This is so cool. Maybe you don't need an appointment after all! You must be highly sensitive -- how wonderful -- do you pick up energy from other people, feelings, symptoms, etc., too? Have you always known this about yourself? I love this. You are a daughter of the moon, what sign are you?

    2. I am very sensitive to people's energy and I had a psychic tell me I had a very high energy field and could feel what others were feeling without them stating it. And yes, sometimes I believe she was right, it's a blessing and a curse. I'm a sagitarrius through and through..foot in mouth, outspoken, humorous, gregarious, empathethic, etc..

    3. Helen, I've never seen Sag's described quite like that -- foot in mouth! ;-)

You're right, a blessing and a curse...have been told that it lightens the burden for others when empaths take it on. It can be frightening, but it always passes.

      Peace.

    1. Nat, thank you! I'm working on it but slow-going -- I was thinking about doing some lacy-stitching around some leaf edges, you read my mind. ;-)

    1. Nancy, thank you! Watching and listening, yes -- the buds and blooms could be a reminder...that plant sits on my sewing table and puts up with me and my "stuff" every day!
