calendar page bookcover

Whenever I have a few minutes, I'm trying to do something easy like stitch a line or knit one row. I'm still knitting the Gaptastic scarf, it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. I guess easy doesn't always necessarily mean quick.

I save our old calendars and am thinking about what to do with them. The beautiful Cavallini & Co. calendars (printed in Italy) have paper that feels almost like cloth, I bet they will sew up like a dream on the sewing machine. For now though, one calendar page was the perfect size to cover my monthly planner -- with a little dotted tape and a closure band made from ribbon and a hair tie, it's such an  improvement.

And, last but not least, I have come upon my new favorite thing to give as a host/hostess gift instead of a bottle of wine -- a bottle of organic olive oil. I've done this twice lately and like that the bottleneck can be decorated with a strip of cloth from my sewing basket and we're ready to go out the door.

Any ideas for calendar pages that feel like cloth?

  2. that apple green stitching looks so good here. has it really been a couple of years since we started weaving with jude? my neighbor was just showing me a paper quilt piece made of sewn together thick papers. the pieces were button hole stitched together on the machine. your cover turned out great.

  4. nice monthly planner cover. you could put a light cloth behind the calendar page, put it in a hoop and do some free motion stitching over the design and then...well, you could frame it or make cards or little booklets....

  5. What a lovely cover you've made! I love the cloth weaving and the hand. You have such a way of 'presenting'! You add a moon to one of the cloth-like calendar pages and go from there!

  6. A dear friend of mine makes envelopes from old calendar pages: simply unglue an envelope for a pattern and trace around it onto the calendar page, cut it out, and glue it together. Then, use a white label-sticker where the address will go (if necessary).

By the way, one of the incremental tasks I've done lately is to organize all my embroidery thread with clothespins---over a hundred and twenty-five: thanks for this wonderful idea, Peggy!

  7. How about slicing the pages into strips and weaving them like the lovely stitched fabrics?
they too could be hand or machine stitched over.
Maybe with a black outline of a Goddess, moon or hare for example?
Great gift idea too.......esp if youd made it yourself lol

  8. I love Cavallini calendars and their papers are gorgeous as well. In the latest issue of Green Craft there was an article about weaving papers. What about making boxes? I personally think they are too pretty to cut up, but a box could be used to store needles, threads, etc. There is also a few books out about using paper as cloth. Beryl Taylor is on author who does beautiful things with paper. Or, creating your own sketch journal is an idea. I look forward to seeing what you create! I love the table runner. Hope you are having a good week.
