finding and making

The garland I started last month seemed to need a little something more -- and vintage red buttons are it. It was fun to make this.

I forgot about the carrots in the garden! Until this morning, that is. Their seed was for assorted colors and I was hoping to get mostly purple for dyeing cloth. I don't know if these would be considered purple or what, but they're not orange. Now I need to decide whether to eat them or dye with them as I intended. The weather has been unseasonably warm so the pansies and violets started blooming again -- and notice the nice green woad foliage in the carrot photo. Our dogs are shedding heavily, as well. Signs of the times.

Yesterday I arranged greens from around the yard, dried stems from the lunaria garden, and bittersweet vines from Thanksgiving in an outdoor planter. I want to use lunaria inside, too, maybe tuck little sprigs into tiny silver vases. I am crazy about this plant, fresh and dried. I know it's common in some areas, but not here.

Thanks for visiting and happy weekending. xo

  2. All looking very festive at your place Peggy....looks lovely!!!!

Purple carrots! You've grown your own. They arent quite as dark as some I've seen, but definately the same variety (they do give off a reddish tinge). Cant wait to see what you do with them. I've had them raw in salad, they were yummy!

  3. Lovely celebratory images here :)
Today around here, the guy transplanted some sunflower seeds into a circle where the grapefruit tree stood before the big tree removal! They are coming up all over the place, squirrels and birds is my guess! I have bulbs coming up way early (usually do so in Feb)...and the back earth is green with a springtime look!
Thanks for sharing your growth and light :)

  6. I love your garland and the red buttons are just the right touch. I also love your star pot. So festive! I need to plant lunaria next year. I love the seed heads?, what does one call seed pods like that? Wishing you a beautiful weekend. (I'd use the carrots for dyeing. You can always eat the orange ones.)

  7. I haven't had enough windfall branches in the yard to make a wreath this year! I'm going to have to get a bit more creative. The purple carrots are yummy. Didn't think about the carrot itself leaving color on cloth, the carrot tops are an incredible yellow.

  10. I've just brought my lunatic in from the garden. It reminds me of my grandmother, who always had a new bundle of it in the house! My husband kept asking me to get rid of it, all summer long, but I resisted - and I'm glad I did! Your arrangement is beautiful - and I LOVE your carrots. I'll be interested to know what you decide to do with them.

    xxoo
